Since the release of Megaman 9 and it's success it would seem that we may start seeing more companies take this approach to new game releases. What series of games should get a new installment but in a classic form?
My vote is for Sonic. Sonic needs to have that Genesis feel in every aspect. From the simple Genesis colour palate to MIDI sound quality. I think a title would sell really well if people saw Sonic return to his official roots.
Streets of Rage, Golden Axe or Final Fight would be another. Double Dragon just got an update on the GBA a few years ago...why not these games? Streets of Rage 4 could be awesome if they bring back the original characters fron the first game (Axel, Adam and Blaze) and add one more to fill in a roster of 4 characters. Throw in co-op online play and you'd have a winner. Same goes for the other games. Screw Golden Axe: Beast Rider.

I think they should keep making Battletoads games and not evolve them much, if at all.

I think Mortal Kombat could do well again if they retro-ized it.
I'd also like to see retro Final Fantasies. It's gotten to the point where I think XIII just looks very silly.

As mentioned above: Sonic.
I have not played Sonic Chronicles, so I cannot give a firm opinion on it, but in all honesty, it really does not look like my kind of game. The last time I remember enjoying a new Sonic release was the Sonic collection disc that is on the GameCube.

I have no idea, but if they've ever changed Bomberman from the SNES version I still play and love, then they shouldn't have. I also thought updates to Pacman and all that lot on the PS were a right load of old shit.
I hope that Fallout 3 is an improvement.

What, you hadn't heard how far Bomberman had fallen?

I enjoy Sonic being in 3d actually. The only Sonic game I've ever really liked was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. The old run from left side of the screen to the right (sometimes the other way) while avoiding traps an enemies doesn't appeal to me. Same goes for Megaman games. I pretty much only like the 3D ones.
Even though I'm saying this I really liked old school Mario. There was just something about it. Bomberman I think is pretty good in 3D. Of couse the last one I played was on the first one on the N64. If it's gone downhill from there it needs to go back to that.
Beat-em-up games need to go back to 2D. After playing Beatdown: Fists of Vengence, I haven't touched one since.

Contra.
How so? Contra 4 on the DS is great. I don't think it needs to change so much as there needs to be more games released.
BD, you have some interesting tastes in games. Most of us would argue how poorly made the Megaman X and Sonic games have been in 3D aside from a few exceptions. Just matters when you played those games in your life I suppose.

They need to do to Super Mario World what they did with Mega Man 2. A pseudo-ROM hack of SMW done by Nintendo would be great.

New SMB might be the closest we'll ever get. I didn't mind the graphical changes, I just wish it was more difficult.

I personally didn't care for that game - I think Super Mario World would have made a better template to start from, or at least SMB 3. The first game was good, but why use it as a base? It's the same problem I had with Capcom's decision to make a classic Mega Man, but strip out things that weren't in Mega Man 2, since it was the best-selling (And then offer them again as unlockables), though obviously it's not the same situation. I just think that a return to SMW would make far more sense than a return to Mega Man 2 - the latter was outdone multiple times by other games in its own series, the former was not, in my opinion.
