Dragon Quest X is official and it's online.

http://kotaku.com/5837320/dragon-que...-wii-and-wii-u

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/05/dr...still-for-wii/

Well finally showing it's face after a very long time of being down on the low radar.

I personally am quite disappointed that this is the direction the series has chosen to go. The game is supposedly online only and will require a subscription fee. I'm really put off by that and have no interest of paying beyond the price of the game.

Not sure, but feelings on this new installment in the long running series?

Even for someone with no interest in the series like myself this is disappointing.

WHAT Subscription?

All I had heard was that it would be pretty much like an extended version of the DQ IX online mode. Damn. Had read NOTHING about a subscription fee.

Hell I even read today at SA that the game would be doable solo. All I had read was good, but if it requires subscription fee, every single piece of excitement I had over it is nulled.

Bad choice, SE, but not as bad as NOT bringing Xenoblade, that is one of NOA's worst moves.

I'm with you guys. Genuinely intrigued, having enjoyed DQIX a bit, but the subscription fee kills it.

If it's not turn based and is realtime, and is kinda-sorta like PSO, I might think about paying it if it gets sterling reviews. But most likely not.

I've read speculation that it may or may not have a mixture of Monster Hunter Tri and DQIX's structure. It will probably have that subscription fee in Japan, but hopefully not overseas, just like Tri.

Really unlikely to NOT be turn based, in any case.

Not that I'm a fan of the series, but, put this down as yet another brilliant decision by Square.

Also, why the hell would they release this game on a system which is dead in the water? Especially when it's an online game? How long are they going to keep the games servers up after the Wii dies?

The Wii has the largest base of the three consoles, and it is also getting a WiiU port.

I actually don't think it's a good move on their part at all. In Japan this may or may not work out well, I don't know what the feelings are on MMOs there. It will sell simply because it's DQ but it might be harder for younger kids to be able to get a subscription fee every month to play.

As for North America, this is likely to fail. Dragon Quest has only seen some popularity since Dragon Quest VIII came out. The DS remakes and DQ IX were successful I'm sure from a business stand point but I really don't see people buying into playing an MMO on the Wii/Wii U. Not only playing the game online on the Wii/Wii U but having to pay extra on top of that for an online service that most people feel is inferior compared to all other home platforms is not going to help it fair well.

They're giving it the Twilight Princess treatment. Wii + Wii U.

Seems strange to me. An MMO turn-based RPG would be pretty intriguing if a company would try it. Maybe for huge bosses they have a mode like that, where you take turns and your teammates have 15 seconds to input their command or something. I dunno.

Somehow I don't think people would really embrace that, heh.

Nexon has Atlantica and I'm pretty sure it's a turn-based MMORPG. If you're curious.

That is if it DOES have the fee in America. It could easily be like Monster Hunter Tri in that aspect. It has a fee in Japan, it doesn't anywhere else.

Probably won't be an announcement on that online payment for outside of Japan for a little while. Maybe they will be trying to monitor the reaction online to a possible subscription fee. If they do follow the generally negative thoughts so far, then it's likely that they will not bring a monthly payment outside of Japan.
