Bernie Mac is dead...

Quote:
Bernie Mac, who for the past 30 years made the public laugh with an over-sized comic persona in film, television and comedy clubs, has died of pneumonia, PEOPLE has confirmed. He was 50.

"[He] passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his rep, Danica Smith, told PEOPLE. "No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family's privacy continues to be respected."

On Aug 1, Mac was admitted to a hospital at Northwestern Memorial hospital with pneumonia said his rep, adding that he was expected to recover, despite widespread rumors about the seriousness of his condition.

Born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough in Chicago, Mac began his career as a stand-up comedian in the small comedy clubs of his native town. As a founding member of the Kings of Comedy comedy tour ? the success of which spawned Spike Lee's 2000 concert movie The Original Kings of Comedy (also starring Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer) ? Mac was able to spotlight what would become his rapid-fire delivery. This effectively launched him into the big time.
I was never a huge fan of his standup, even though I thought he was funny, but I especially loved him in Oceans 11, 12 and 13 and was hoping a new installment would be made. This really sucks.

Wow, that came out of left field. I enjoyed most of his humor. This seems to be one of those years when we lose the comedians, first the king Carlin and now Mac. Just when we could use more laughs.

Wow, that's sad. I heard early this week he was in real bad shape, but I figured he'd get better.

From what I did know about the guy, he seemed decent enough. I was kind of shocked when I read about it online earlier.

Well at least after the "Bernie Mac is in critical condition...oh he's okay" fiasco we know for sure. He will be missed.

Wasn't a fan. Death by pneumonia though? That's gotta suck.

He had sarcoidosis, which is almost as not likely as lupus. But basically, it's an autoimmune disease that causes nodules- most often in the lungs (as in the case with Bernie Mac). It can make you succeptable to pneumonia more than the average 50 year old. In general, healthy people can knock back pneumonia with medical attention.

Wow, I'm floored. Very unexpected. He wasn't my favorite comedian, but that really sucks. Why couldn't we lose someone like Carrot Top?

Awww...lamez0r. I'm majorly out of the loop without internet...damn. I hate watching the news, because I go to bed at night clutching my pillow freaking out that some hill-billy's going to crash through my window or something... So I even miss about celebrity deaths. :/ Bummer.
