Fable 2

Anyone get it?

I loved the first one on the original Xbox and just got 2 a few days ago and am loving it as well.

If anyone else does have it, how are you building your character? Going good/evil?

Only problem I have with the game is the kinda half-assed online co-op. It's great you can play with other people, but not allowing them to bring their own characters over into your game is kinda bleh. I don't see why anyone would want to use some pre-made shitty character when anyone who has the game is probably just going to want to use their own.

Honestly Im kinda disappointed. Dont get me wrong its a great game but I thought I was going to like it more then the original. And thats not the case.

My main complaints are loading times, choppy animation, repetitive jobs, ranged and magic combat, underwhelming story, and the half baked ending which made me feel like I accomplished absolutely nothing.

The combat system works but imo its not as fluid as it was in the original. Like I said magic works but you have to set it up correctly for it to be effective.

Example: cast slow time - raise undead - slow time - and then cast just about any damage dealing attack and you will own up on just about every enemy in the game. If you set it up right its way too easy and if you dont its frustrating.

Ranged combat is really sloppy and manual targeting is terrible...nuff said.

At first I was really into the plot but I was left waiting for something amazing to happen and it never did. There were plenty of things that Lionhead intended to have an impact but it just doesnt work.

Example: Remember the arena scene from the original? It was awesome. One of the high points of the original. It was a place that all of the worlds greatest heroes had tested their might and by the time you fought your way to the end you felt like a badass.

The arena scene from Fable 2... I felt like I was a part of some stupid game show.

Example 2: Remember the scene from the original where you get thrown in prision for 10 years? It had a real impact. You could see the toll it took on your character and it pissed you off. It made revenge all the more sweeter at the end of the game.

There is a somewhat similar scene in Fable 2 but it lacked the same effect from the original. By the end of it your character looks virtually the same and you dont really care because you dont really get the feeling that your character just went through 10 years of hell.

And the ending... That was just terrible. It did leave plenty of room for a Lost Chapters style expansion so I hope they do that in the near future so I can get a decent ending out of this game.

All in all I would still recommend it. Its just that Fable is one of my favorite games so I expected more.

Well, I like the game a lot, but once I've beaten the game and unlocked all of the Achievements (something that is NOT difficult for the most part), I will never play it again. Here's why:

1) The Quests have no real reward. Yeah, you gain Renown, Alignment points, and occasionally an item/gold/a love interest, but after a while, you won't need any of these things. Not one item or special weapon I've gotten has been varied or interesting enough to warrant continued use against these ridiculously-easy enemies, I now make more money from Real Estate than I could ever make from a quest or job, and I've already got two wives and damn near everyone in Albion is madly in love with me...so I'm not hurting for companionship.

2) Marriage boasts very few rewards. Yes, if your wife likes you, she'll give you free gifts, but most of these things equate to stuff that wasn't hard to find once I left the first town. The best thing that I enjoy receiving from my wives are XP potions, but I can walk into any store I want and buy out the whole stock without putting a dent in my finances.

On the other hand, marriage is the most cumbersome thing I've ever done (yes, I'm well aware of the irony of that statement). To keep my family happy, I have to constantly drag my ass back from whatever I was doing in order to spend some time with them. And since most Quests/Missions take me to places which take 3 - 5 days to travel, I usually have to scramble back to the family in order to make sure that I don't get slapped with a hasty divorce. And to make matters worse, I've now got two wives (just to satisfy the Bigamist achievement).

I've yet to be divorced, but from what I've heard online, it can happy quite randomly for keeping your family unhappy in even one area. And I'm not in a hurry to lose half of the money I've accumulated.

3) Exploration is a joke. Go here, hear dog bark, and dig. *Yawn*

I've been playing it since I bought it last Thursday and have been enjoying it, but like most of you, once I've finished everything I'll have no rason to play it again.

I like that the world is bigger, but it'd be nice to actually be able to do something in all that open land besides hoping to run into a Treasure or Dig Spot. I prefer the rent accumulation in this game, whereas in Fable you had to actually go to each and every house. I much prefer the direct deposit way.

I have a few gripes with this game. One, which is more personal than anything is the non inclusion of Longbows. I've never been one to use a crossbow, which doesn't feel the same as a longbow. Then there's the lack of minimap. I don't know what they were smoking when they thought that was a good idea, but it is quite annoying when I don't know what areas are actually available to me and I'm just running around aimlessly trying to find the potion shop. Fable had a minimap, so why Fable 2 doesn't is beyond me.

Having the dog was a pretty cool concept at first, but there are times I forget it's even there until it finds some kind of secret. I would have liked to see them do more with it. Maybe letting you choose what kind of dog you want or being able to single out targets for it to attack for you.

I like the combat in this one. It seems more fluid to me when switching weapons and casting spells. I also like the marraige concept in this one, but the divorce factor seems quite random. I check the family tab and everything is fine, but I go to visit my family and my wife from practically the beginning of the game, leaves me. I'm just sitting there thinking "Wtf?!". Then there's the glitch which I explained in another thread which has left me with a useless house and one Wife off in another dimension (because I can't find her, and she's still in the family tab.)

I just got the Hero of Will and am going around doing quests and buying every property I encounter (making like 10k/5min) and am about to go to the dark side for the hell of it.

I'm playing through once as good, then I'll play through again as evil. I imagine evil is easier, as it always is, and possibly more fun.

I like it just fine, but it feels kind of vapid. I didn't play the first one for very long, maybe I should give it a shot.

After some time with the game, I really like it, but I can't shake the feeling that the original was better.

Fable's never been one for an overall plot, so I don't blame 2 for being just as plot-poor, but stuff that was in the original but taken out in Fable II really annoys me (most notably the mini-map and the inability to map items to the d-pad in the menu).

Some of my original gripes (like having less spells) have been fixed seeing as the upper level spells bring back many abilities that used to be separate spells in the original (like the teleport behind enemy that is now part of the Level 3 Time Warp)

Also, my character became a lard-ass pretty quickly and I was getting pretty mad my character looked like shit, but it was rectified when I found the solution: celery!

lol Yeah I had the same problem. You drink a few beers and that automatically makes you a fat ass. From what Ive seen celery does work the best.

I only used food that didn't add fat to me. So I mostly had potions, celery, fish, carrots, and apples most of the time. Even still my character looks a bit bulky, but that was mostly due to the physique stat.

I'm going to wrap up like one more easy achievement and call it quits on this game. Now just make Fable 3 longer and more open-ended like Oblivion and I'll be sold next time.

The Executioner
The Completionist
The Dollcatcher
and the Philanthropist

Executioner I can do by starting over and sacrificing 10 people. The others will take some time and XBL use. I have the Fable 2 Pub Games where you can get the two boos for expressions you can't get otherwise, but I suck at the games because my luck is shitty. Dollcatcher is going to take trading with 5-6 other people who don't have the same doll.

I was somewhat intrigued by the game before its release, but that feeling has since diminished pretty dramatically. My girlfriend is currently obsessed with it, so every now and then I watch her play it, and from what I've seen, there's very little that appeals to me. I'd have to say the my favorite part about the game are the little stories she tells me of the things that happen to her character, like when her husband divorced her and ran off with their baby. I got a laugh out of that story, and it was made all the more funny when I learned that the game had given their baby the dumb name of "Kiernan".

Thread necromancy!

In a possible pricing fuckup, Fable 2 is free on the Sbox Live service.
