Uncharted series

Who's had a chance to play either of these?

I myself am a huge treasure hunting game / movie / book fan, so the subject matter already had me hooked even before factoring in the graphics, gameplay, and story in to it. And of course, they were great. The first game had some of the best characterization (specifically Nate and Elena) that I had ever seen in a video game, and it really added a lot to an already top-notch story. In fact, I would say it was one of the better stories in a game I've ever played, and that says a lot coming from an action title and from a guy who's played a ton of RPGs, where the story's usually the defining feature. The only real demerits I give the first title are some jump-the-shark moments at the tail end of the game. Beyond those few "wha...?" moments, logically speaking, the game was terrific. It's seriously worth a play if you guys haven't given it a try. One of the PS3's better exclusives. It's probably hit the bargain bin by now, too, so pick it up for cheap if you see it.

I've yet to play the second game, but it's in my "buy soon" list (along with like 4 games right now) and I really need some time to get around to playing a new game now with all of the games I'm currently dividing my free time between currently. That's what month long college holiday breaks are for, though. And besides, it's been getting absolutely glowing reviews from just about everyone, so there's no doubt in my mind the second one is just as good as the first.

I played a demo of the first one recently and loved it. I'll probably get it once I'm done with the current games I'm playing.

Uncharted 2 looks great and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I have to play the first one first though, it's kind of a rule I have.

The first is actually not too long. I beat it over a weekend, and I'm usually very completist about things (to my own detriment sometimes) so you may beat it quicker. The combat kind of gets dull after a little while, but by the time that happens they throw the kitchen sink at you and you really need to get creative in order to avoid getting lambasted in the final levels. That, and the pacing is awesome. Right after a big firefight they'll give you a nice breather puzzle a few times.

I loved the first Uncharted and can't wait to get my hands on the second come mid-December.

I loved Uncharted! I just played it through September and October (I take an infinitely long time to finish any game). It was great, I loved climbing and jumping around like a monkey and the combat style. I'm playing Uncharted 2 right now, but I'm not making much progress because I'm enjoying the online multiplayer so much.

Uncharted has seemingly taken over as the flagship series for Sony this Generation (God of War was for the PS2...and kind of still is for the PS3). Yet I have avoided it for no good reason. Partly because I was unaware of the first game and only thought about it after reading some things about the second title.

They look mighty impressive and I was really close to buying the first game 2 days ago but I couldn't pass up the chance on a brand new English copy of Demon's Souls. I would like to try the series in the near future though.

OK, so I actually made my Uncharted 2 purchase about a week ago and not mid-December. Sue me.

I beat it two days ago. It was totally excellent. Nathan Drake is probably one of my favorite video game protagonists, and it's one of the few games where I thought female characters were also cool.

But anyway, playing it was so fluid. It was just the right mix of story, gameplay, and cinematics. Voice acting was awesome and the writing was stellar right down to the playful banter.

Minor complaints: pretty similar formula to the last game.
Spoiler for :
Evil dude wants to get something really old because of some legendary power it will give him which he will abuse. He and everyone else underestimates its power. Enter mythological creatures of some sort - all of whom used to be normal but something happened and now they are supernatural. Also, he was betrayed by Sully -- I mean, Chloe -- wait, no he wasn't! Wait, yes he was! Wait, no?
Drake knows everything including 13th century Latin (not just the Latin you'd learn in grammar school, mind you, but right down to ye old declensions and what not.)

Still, very minor complaints. Lots of fun, and hey, it's a very enjoyable formula. I can definitely see why it received so many perfect scores. If ever there was a game that I thought was tailored specifically for me, this was it.

I tried the first one for a bit yesterday; it was alright but I didn't see anything groundbreaking about it. The shooting controls turned me off a bit. Maybe I just need to play more of it. It definitely reminded me a bit of Prince of Persia though, which is a good thing.

I thought the first Uncharted was great, perhaps the best exclusive the PS3 had for quite some time. My only complaint was the final boss fight, which consisted solely of quicktime button prompts. Just felt odd for a game that didn't use that system that much, and a bit of a cop-out. Still, I absolutely loved it.

The second Uncharted was even better, excelling over the first game in just about every way - truly the definition of a sequel. It could have been a bit better had the story not devolved into a rehash of the first, and the final boss fight was again quite lame. But those missteps simply can't sway me away from thinking the game a magnificent adventure.

I finally got around to playing Uncharted 2 over the last few days, and it must be noted that this game is amazing. Absolutely awesome.
