PSN Premium for a fee?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6262879...dlines;title;3

The Gamespot article there talks a bit about Sony's plans to release a premium service for the PSN. I won't bother summarizing what is already a short article, so what do you guys think about this? Would you be willing to pay for a one-year subscription to a premium service?

I actually just got a PS3 (well, it's waiting for me back in the US), and hearing about this actually piques my interest a little bit. I probably won't jump on immediately of course, but if the offerings are strong enough, paying once a year what is just about the price of one new game title wouldn't bother me too much.

If they decide to offer a free game every month from a selection, that alone could prove to be incentive enough if the games are quality.

Thoughts?

In mexico there will still not be any way to pay other than nonaccesible point cards, so that would only make the service even worse for my area. Even Nintendo has better online infrastructure than Sony here in Mexico.

They don't sell the point cards in Mexico? Or just not near you?

Point cards sold only in two (not two chains, TWO) stores nationwide. No credit card support. Less than half the PSN content, anyways.

Can't you just set up a US account? I've heard about people here in the states setting up Japanese accounts to get access to some country-exclusive stuff.

Sony might have patched that up though.

It is possible, but eh, not really all that worth the hassle, worse if like Steam they have region checks for credit cards and whatnot.

I'll see where they go with this before I pass early judgment. Could be the best thing that ever happened to Sony, or it could bomb worse than Vanilla Ice's comeback.

Why did you have to hate on Vanilla Ice? There were a couple of songs on Platinum Underground, that if incredibly inebriated, weren't THAT shitty.
